Are any of your Boards taking a position on the Devos nomination? I know of at least 2 NYS Districts that have. We are contemplating it and at the same time I'm curious how other Boards are viewing its role, if any, as advocates surrounding the nomination.

Yes, against in Miller Place. We wrote a letter to Senator Schumer and then after the confirmation hearing passed a resolution. Both are posted on our districts main page. A big focus of our letter was the potential loss of funding.
Our Board has decided not to take a position on an individual nominee for fear it will introduce politics into the board room. I am suggesting that our board focus on the means of improving education within our district by improving teacher quality. Recent research seems to indicate that the key to school and student success is teacher quality via an emphasis recruitment and on professional development for example: teacher collaboration, one on one coaching, development of master teachers, etc.
