Future Board VP

Hi folks:

I am currently the VP of our board, and our President has chosen not to seek re-election, so I am anticipating a nomination for President at our reorg meeting.

One of our members with a good deal of experience on the BOE is actually an LSR for NYSUT in his day job.  Based on his demeanor and candor as a board member, I think he would be a fine officer, as he seems to easily separate his board role from his employment, but I'm concerned about the optics.  Does this scenario raise a red flag with anyone?

thanks for your input!

  • If you have no reason to be alarmed about this and the board member has otherwise proven himself able to separate his job from his board service, I see no red flags with this scenario. Multiple different types of people with varied experiences makes a board all the better in the end. Good luck!
  • He has offered many interesting perspectives on personnel matters, among other things.
  • He would have an interesting perspective. There is always the option of recusing oneself on a particular topic.
