Future Board VP

Hi folks:

I am currently the VP of our board, and our President has chosen not to seek re-election, so I am anticipating a nomination for President at our reorg meeting.

One of our members with a good deal of experience on the BOE is actually an LSR for NYSUT in his day job.  Based on his demeanor and candor as a board member, I think he would be a fine officer, as he seems to easily separate his board role from his employment, but I'm concerned about the optics.  Does this scenario raise a red flag with anyone?

    If you have no reason to be alarmed about this and the board member has otherwise proven himself able to separate his job from his board service, I see no red flags with this scenario. Multiple different types of people with varied experiences makes a board all the better in the end. Good luck!

    He has offered many interesting perspectives on personnel matters, among other things.

    He would have an interesting perspective. There is always the option of recusing oneself on a particular topic.
