The Board president gives a short speech toward the beginning of the ceremony and then shakes hands with all graduates as they cross the stage after receiving their diplomas. It's an unwritten tradition that if a Board member other than the president has a graduating senior, the Board president invites the member with the grad to give the speech.
The Board President gives a speech as well as one teacher picked by the students, the student class president, the Super and the Principal. The Super hands the diploma and graduates now can shake hands with the Board President and Super and then go to a spot to shake hands with the Principal and have a photo taken. During Covid we were limited but the Board sits on the stage with the leadership of the school.
The Board President gives a short speech and shakes hands after the Superintendent and after the Principal hands them their diploma. Current or former trustees can give their child their diploma if they wish.
Our school board president delivers a message/speech each year along with the student speakers, HS principle and Superintendent. The board president is also handed each diploma from the HS principle and then gives it to each graduate and simultaneously shakes their other hand as their name is called and they walk across the stage. That moment is held for a photo opportunity that is taken by a professional photographer for each graduate. This has been our practice for a long time.
The Board President hands out the diplomas to each student and board members all form a line to shake hands. Any current or former board member can give their own child their diploma if they choose to. Superintendent and Principal give speeches.
At our district the Board Pres hands out the diplomas, along with the Superintendent. Speaking is reserved for the Super, principal, and selected students.
I have never known any member of the board to give a speech in our district. Any interested and available members are invited to hand diplomas, give handshakes and congrats to graduates. Speeches are limited to the HS principal and Superintendent, Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and teacher intros for both.
