Internal Claim Auditor

To those of you who use an internal claims auditor, do you meet with them in public? I don't think we can meet with them in executive session, but we have a difference of opinion on this issue.  Education Law says we can hold an executive session with the external auditors, but I cant find anything about meeting with Internal Claims Auditor.

Thanks!

  • Thanks everyone. To clarify, our audit committee is a committee of the whole. Our new claims auditor began about six months ago. We do get monthly reports. This would be the first time the board has met with the internal claim auditor since I joined our board 6 years ago so we are entering uncharted waters (for our board).
  • I have been an Internal Claims auditor for another district for the past 14 years. I have never reported to the full board. I meet several times a year with the audit committee. I have attended trainings with the board.

I can't think of a a reason to meet with the claims auditor in executive session unless you were discussing their performance or a finding that involved a staff member. If your audit committee is the full board. You probably meet once a year and discuses job discretion, audit check list and reporting.

The monthly or quarterly report needs only be accepted by the board.
