Mentoring a new Superintendent

Hi, We have just appointed a new Superintendent who will be in his first superintendency. Both the board and the superintendent have agreed that some form of mentoring is desirable. Other than NYSCOSS, does anyone have any experience in finding mentoring programs or providing mentors for new superintendents?

  • Thanks to everyone who responded. We ended up developing a program with our local BOCES and appointing a recently retired Superintendent. It is working very well.
  • I agree, with Bob and Carol, reach out to your BOCES Super to see what they offer. The best mentor will be someone in the job.
  • We also have a local (BOCES) Superintendents council, and when our Superintendent was new, and a first timer, he was "given" a mentor through the council.
  • I just saw this! We have a local Superintendent's council which our superintendent attends. I think it is a great resource!
