Out of District Placement for SPED

Hi all - just curious if any other districts are getting hammered by costs of placing Special Education students out of district.  If so, do you have any creative ideas on how to remediate costs?  This topic single-handedly caused us to have to break the tax cap this year with our budget.  Going forward we are going to try to put the necessary resources in place to bring some of these kids back in house, and perhaps even turn it into a revenue stream by accepting other schools' kids.  But I'm really curious as to how pervasive this issue is around the state.  Thanks in advance for your comments

Hi Lester, I believe this an issue that affects many school districts throughout the state. Locust Valley School District proposed a resolution for the annual meeting to advocate for changes to special education funding for out of district placements. Perhaps your board would consider endorsing the resolution once it is published in the voting delegate guide. Today is the last day to submit resolutions. I will see if I can attach it somewhere in this thread or I can email it to you?
