  • I think that it's important to establish a strong relationship with the PTA. I became a board member after serving in several PTA officer positions. Perhaps ask the PTA officers what they think would be effective?
  • We don’t, but each board member is assigned to a school and part of the role is attending the PTA/PTO meetings
  • In the past board members have been involved with PTA in a building their child was in or one they could assist. I was PTA president for one building for the first two years I was on the board when I first got elected. We try to annually call a joint meeting of the PTA/Parent groups and board members attend that.
  • We do not, they can attend like the rest of the public. Prior to the pandemic, we tried to attend their meetings as often as possible.
  • We also, do not, however we do invite them, and all of our other groups, annually to give us a presentation of what they are doing for the year. If they ask to be "officially" on the agenda, we'll accommodate that also.
  • We do not have a PTA officer at the board table. We do have a BOE-PTA liaison that serves as the conduit between the two groups. The PTA regularly gives updates at School Board meetings. That seems to work well. My personal view (not my boards): School Board members are publicly elected officials. It doesn't seem fair to include someone at the board table that isn't a publicly elected official that was put there by their community. The only exception I could see would be a student in some capacity that was elected by their peers.
  • We do not. They can speak during public comment. I believe at least one of our schools has a BOE rep/liaison on their PTA exec board (a parent, not a BOE trustee) but to date it seems that person hasn't approached the BOE with info from the PTA.
  • We don't have them participate in any way any other community member can during Public Comment period.
  • We do not. PTA usually only attends if they have specific concerns to discuss or have a presentation.
