As usual, we are at the mercy of the Governor and awaiting guidance regarding reopening schools in September. I would love to see disricts ban together and send a message with one voice asking the gov to allow us to reopen fully in September for in person learning. We know distance learning was not successful this year. When the gov wanted to "re-imagine" education, we all sent a message loud and clear that we did not want that and he backpedaled. Can we do the same for reopening in September? The mounting evidence is showing children are not affected by coronavirus like adults, they are not asymptomatic carriers and we know the damage to their mental health being away from their peers, extra curricular activities and learning in an in-person education setting. Is NYSSBA doing any advocating to get our kids back to school? Thoughts? Would your district be part of a coalition?
I see Cuomo is having a press conference today at 11:30, wondering if he will talk about school. Either way, I'd love to coordinate a response from all school districts.
