School Security

Obviously this is a hot topic.

Any Board considering armed guards or armed peace officers full time?

i know one school in Suffolk started using armed security

Anyone making any significant changes?

I am pushing the state to alter the lockdown rules at the high school level to advise students to be prepared to fight should the threat enter the classroom.  Start by piling desks and chairs in front of the class door. Run and Hide but be prepared to Fight.

I don’t believe we can look to the governor to provide any money for security issues, especially when he is considering holding back $200 million from US to give to NYC Charter schools.

Also, we use Report-it, an anonymous hotline for kids and adults to anonymously inform the district regarding threats. It’s a great resource I highly recommend.
