Thank you all, for clarity this question was presented as a conversation starter around wording and framing of goals rather than the process. Thank you again to all who shared.
Simply put, the superintendent's goals are driven by the superintendent's evaluation. Areas for improvement, identified by either the board or the superintendent in the evaluation, are used in developing goals for the next year.
At Haldane CSD, we typically set two sets of goals: One for the Board and one for the District (the latter is usually set by the superintendent). This year, in an effort to streamline and work more diligently toward the bigger projects we want to see accomplished, we published shared goals, which are listed at the bottom of this page:
Our Williamsville CSD Board is actively involved in the Superintendent goal process. As NYSSBA recommends "Collectively, the board and superintendent review the standards of performance as well as identify the annual superintendent objectives based on local priorities of the district." Our Superintendent goals are reviewed and finalized publicly during our August Goal setting workshop that happens concurrently with our August Board meeting. These goals are very specific to the work and needs of our district.
